PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubbing member that can suppress the occurrence of chipping in a contact area in contact with a rubbing target member.SOLUTION: There is provided a rubbing member including a substrate having a contact area in contact with a rubbing target member, where the Young's modulus E1 on a surface of the contact area is 10 MPa or more and 200,000 MPa or less, and the thickness T of the contact area is 10 nm or more and 500 nm or less.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
