To provide a strainer for a cooling tower, the shape of which is made so adequate that the inflow of air can be hindered while lowering the height, in which foreign matter such as impurities and scale to be accumulated in a filtration part is easily checked and the maintenance work efficiency such as cleaning of which is drastically improved.
The strainer body 10 of this strainer is formed into a nearly box-like shape so that the majority of the strainer body is made lower than the upper end of a water intake 52. A gap between the side part of the strainer body 10 and the bottom surface of a lower water tank 50 is used as a water entrance passage. A filter 20 to be arranged in the lower part of the strainer body 10 is curved and the filtration area of the filter is is sufficiently secured while controlling that the water to be sucked into the strainer flows sideways along the bottom surface of the lower water tank 50. As a result, foreign matter can be captured adequately while sucking the water sideways from the gap and a water flow passage can hardly be clogged by the clogged foreign matter. The downward movement of water near the water intake 52 is not caused, so that the air near the water surface of the lower water tank 50 can be restrained from being sucked.
