Abstract:
An active ester resin exerting a low dielectric constant and a low dielectric tangent, and exhibiting heat resistance. An active ester resin having a resin structure obtained by reacting a multifunctional phenol compound (a1) represented by structural formula (1), a monofunctional aromatic carboxylic acid or the salt thereof (a2), and an aromatic dicarboxylic acid or the salt thereof (a3) such that the content of (a2) is 0.4 to 0.95 mol and the content of (a3) is 0.3 to 0.025 mol per one mol of the phenolic hydroxy group in (a1). The aforementioned active ester resin is used as a hardening agent for an epoxy resin. (In the formula, Ar represents a benzene ring, a naphthalene ring, a benzene ring in which a C1-4 alkyl group is subjected to nuclear substitution, or a naphthalene ring in which a C1-4 alkyl group is subjected to nuclear substitution; X represents a methylene group, a bivalent aliphatic cyclic hydrocarbon group, a phenylene dimethylene group, or a biphenylene-dimethylene group; and n represents a repeating unit of which the average is in the range of 0.5 to 10.)
