An air conditioner where refrigerant sound can be suppressed when its operation is started in a heating cycle. The air conditioner (100) has a refrigerant circuit including a compressor (10), an outdoor heat exchanger (14), a first indoor expansion valve (5a), a first indoor heat exchanger (3a), a switching mechanism (11), a receiver (16), a gas vent circuit (20), a gas vent circuit open/close section (30), and a control section. The switching mechanism (11) is a mechanism for switching between a cooling cycle and a heating cycle by switching the circulating direction of refrigerant. The receiver (16) is located on the upstream side of the first indoor expansion valve (5a) in the cooling cycle, on the downstream side of the outdoor heat exchanger (14), and is capable of containing refrigerant in a liquid state. The gas vent circuit (20) is connected from the receiver (16) to the suction side of the compressor (10) and feeds a gas state refrigerant in the receiver (16) to the suction side of the compressor (10). The gas vent circuit open/close section (30) is provided in the gas vent circuit (20) and opens/closes the gas vent circuit (20). To start operation of the air conditioner in the heating cycle, the control section performs refrigerant recovery control for opening the gas vent circuit open/close section (30) before opening the first indoor expansion valve (5a).
