Abstract:
In order to realize an airbag device that achieves reduction in volume and thickness of a side airbag and that enables distribution of inflating gas from an inflator so as to exert the occupant restraint performance of the side airbag, a side airbag 11, 12 in a fully inflated state in an airbag device 10 is provided with a torso-lateral-surface protection chamber 20 and a head-lateral-surface protection chamber 30 formed integrally with the torso-lateral-surface protection chamber 20. In the torso-lateral-surface protection chamber 20 in a fully inflated state, a thickness suppressing part 15 configured from a recess or a through hole is formed in a region that faces an upper arm 5a of an occupant 5 extending obliquely downward from a shoulder 5s. In the torso-lateral-surface protection chamber 20, there are formed an upper flow channel in which inflating gas passes through an upper portion of the thickness suppressing part 15 and flows toward the front-side portion of the thickness suppressing part 15, and a lower flow channel in which the inflating gas passes through a rear-side portion of the thickness suppressing part 15 and flows toward a lower portion of the thickness suppressing part 15. In addition, inflating gas branching off from the upper flow channel flows in the head-lateral-surface protection chamber 30.
