Disclosed are an alternating-current asynchronous gearless variable-speed traction machine and an elevator system. The traction machine comprises a three-phase asynchronous electric motor, and a traction sheave (1) fixed on an output shaft (6) of the three-phase asynchronous electric motor. An encoder (10) and a brake (9) which is used for braking the traction sheave (1) are further arranged on the three-phase asynchronous electric motor, the three-phase asynchronous electric motor comprises a stator shell (3), a stator (4) arranged in the stator shell (3), and a rotor (5) arranged on an outer ring of the output shaft (6), a front end cover (2) and a rear end cover (8) are arranged at two ends of the stator shell (3) respectively, and the brake (9) and the encoder (10) are installed on the rear end cover (8). The traction machine is resistant to high temperatures, simple in structure, convenient to assemble, low in price, environmentally friendly and convenient to install and maintain on site.
