Title:
ANTISKID SPIKE FOR VEHICLE TYRES,
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1999/056976
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The present invention pertains to the field of motor-vehicle construction and relates to a structure of antiskid spikes which are mounted on the tyres of vehicles in order to improve the tyre adhesion onto a road coating having a low adhesion coefficient. The antiskid spike includes a body which has a support surface and which comprises a wear-resistant insert mounted therein, wherein said insert is made of a hard material and protrudes outwardly towards the back crest. The body is made of a polymeric material or a material containing compounds with a high molecular weight, and the insert is made in the shape of a truncated cone having its base connected to the body while its summit protrudes outside. The insert consists of an elongated body having its cross section in the shape of a geometrical figure with a limited number of planes of symmetry. In order to ensure the three-dimensional orientation of the spike relative to the insert sides as it is mounted in the tyre cap, the body is provided with three-dimensional orientation members along the longitudinal axis. A spike realised according to the above-mentioned criteria has an essentially reduced weight and provides for unique adhesion characteristics of the tyre in the different displacement directions thereof. Also, according to the required characteristics, the spike can further be oriented in a circular direction on the whole tread of the tyre.
