Abstract:
An inexpensive stainless steel and inexpensive, high-strength stainless steel that are highly resistant to hydrogen environment embrittlement even when used in a hydrogen environment comprising high-pressure hydrogen gas, at a pressure exceeding 40 MPa, or liquid hydrogen. Said stainless steel contains, by mass, 0.4-1.5% silicon, 8-11% manganese, 15-17% chromium, 5-8% nickel, 1-4% copper, at least 0.01% but less than 0.15% nitrogen, and at most 0.1% carbon, with the remainder comprising iron and unavoidable impurities. The volume ratio of δ-ferrite is 10% or less, with the pre-annealing major axis thereof being 0.04 to 0.1 mm.
