An automatically-adjustable head-mounted display device (100), comprising: a display apparatus (10), an earphone apparatus (20) and a first connector (102); wherein, the display apparatus (10) is movably connected to the earphone apparatus (20) by means of the first connector (102); the display apparatus (10) comprises a display assembly (11), a first laser distance detector (12), a first actuator (14) and a first controller (13). The first laser distance detector (12) detects the distance to a user's eye (200) through the display assembly (11). The first controller (13) determines whether the distance detected by the first laser distance detector (12) is within a preset standard range; if not, controlling the first actuator (14) to drive the first connector (10) to move so as to change the distance between the display apparatus (10) and the earphone apparatus (20), so that the distance between the display apparatus (10) and the user's eye (200) is within the preset standard range. Also provided is an adjustment method. By means of the head-mounted display device (100) and the adjustment method therefor, the mounting position can be automatically adjusted according to factors such as a wearer's head shape.
