Abstract:
Provided is a communication system in which, when a base station employs a plurality of linearly polarized antennas for radio communication with a radio relay device, the communication system is capable of suppressing variations in reception power of a known signal from the base station resulting from attitude changes of the radio relay device, enabling appropriate gain control of a power amplifier of the radio relay device based on the reception power of the known signal. The base station comprises: a plurality of antenna devices including a plurality of linearly polarized antennas capable of transmitting and receiving radio waves having mutually different linear polarization plane angles when performing feeder link communication with the radio relay device; and a base station processing unit or an externally attached phase control device for controlling a phase difference between a plurality of transmission signals fed to the plurality of linearly polarized antennas, for a predetermined time slot in which a predetermined known signal capable of being used for gain control of a power amplifier of the radio relay device is being transmitted to the radio relay device, such that combined polarization of the radio waves of the known signal transmitted from the antenna device to the radio relay device is circular polarization or elliptical polarization.
