Abstract:
An Fe-Ni diffusion layer (3) is formed on the surface of a steel sheet (2) having an
Fe content of not less than 98% by weight, while regulating the Fe/Ni ratio of the
Fe-Ni diffusion layer (3) within the range of 0.1-2.5; and the resulting is formed
into a battery can (1) having predetermined dimensions so that the Fe-Ni diffusion
layer (3) serves as the inner surface of the can. When a battery is produced by
using this battery can (1), the battery has excellent liquid leakage resistance by
suppressing overdischarge erosion even when only a small amount of Ni is used therein.
