Abstract:
Provided is a biaxially oriented polyester film which, when used particularly as the base film of a magnetic recording medium, can yield a high-density magnetic recording medium wherein the dimensional change caused by changes in the environmental factors such as temperature and humidity or by storage is prevented. Thus, the high-density magnetic recording medium achieves a low error rate, and rarely causes the abrasion of a magnetic head or a magnetic tape and therefore exhibits excellent durability in terms of traveling. A biaxially oriented polyester film that has a sea-island structure wherein the dispersed islands have an average diameter of 30 to 200nm, and that exhibits a humidity expansion coefficient of 0 to 6.0ppm/%RH or lower in the lengthwise and/or widthwise direction of the film.
