Abstract:

A biaxially oriented polyester film which has a polyester layer (layer (A)) comprising polybutylene terephthalate and at least either of a copolyester and a noncrystalline polyester, characterized by satisfying the requirement (1) or (2). (1) The polyester layer (layer (A)), when analyzed by temperature-rising DSC, has one melting point, and the polyester film has an edge tear strength of 100 N or less with respect to each of the lengthwise direction and the crosswise direction. (2) The number of incompatible polybutylene terephthalate particles having a major-axis length of 1 μm or longer which are observed in a section of the layer (A) is 1.0 or smaller on the average per 100 μm², and the polyester film has an edge tear strength of 100 N or less with respect to each of the lengthwise direction and the crosswise direction. This film has reduced unevenness in thickness and has satisfactory suitability for tearing by hand. It is suitable for use as a packaging material for industrial materials, medicines, sanitary materials, foods, etc.
