Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to apply an optical amplification relay device to fiber optic sensing to lengthen a sensing range, as well as to enable compatibility with an optical communication system. Provided is a cable system that uses a cable comprising a plurality of fiber optic core wires for fiber optic communication and fiber optic sensing of the environment surrounding the cable, wherein: the fiber optic communication is bidirectional communication using fiber optic core wire pairs which are pairs of the fiber optic core wires; in the fiber optic core wires, a first wavelength band, which is the wavelength for a communication optical signal, and a second wavelength band, which is the wavelength for probe light and backscattering light, are different from each other; an optical amplification part provided to the optical amplification relay device comprises a first amplification part and a second amplification part which amplify light in mutually opposing orientations; and any of the communication optical signal, the probe light, and the backscattering light are amplified by at least one of the first amplification part and the second amplification part.
