A cap for beverage containers, comprising an inclined lid plate having the upper and lower surfaces and covering a top opening of a heat insulating container, a peripheral wall surrounding the lid plate, a valve member having a valve disc which opens and closes a tap formed on the lowest portion adjacent to the peripheral wall of the lid plate, a push rod for operating the valve member, and a return spring for urging the push rod in a direction opposite to the operating direction. The push rod is arranged to retractably move along the underside of the lid plate and through an insertion hole formed in the peripheral wall. An operating lever is turnably provided outside the peripheral wall to engage with the outer end of the push rod to cause the push rod to advance toward the inside of the peripheral wall. An operating portion of the operating lever extends along the outside of the container. The valve member comprises an engaging arm for engaging with the push rod and an opening and closing arm provided at its tip end with the valve disc. The valve member is rotatably provided with a lug shaft which protrudes laterally from the engaging arm supported on a bracket protruding from the bottom of the lid plate.
