Abstract:
The present invention provides a carbon electrode for use in arc discharge for the production of a quartz glass crucible, wherein a recess pattern and/or a protrusion pattern is formed on the surface of the carbon electrode in at least a range of, from a tip portion thereof at which the arc discharge is performed, 50 mm to 130 mm in the longitudinal direction of the carbon electrode. As a result, provided is a carbon electrode on which aggregation of silica fume can be inhibited during production of a quartz glass crucible.
