Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing a carbon fiber bundle comprising single fibers that have an approximately ovoid cross-sectional shape which, when a strength abnormality has occurred, makes it possible to effectively ascertain the cause of the breakage. The carbon fiber bundle comprises 40% or more single fibers in which the cross-section perpendicular to the fiber direction is approximately ovoid and which satisfy both relationships (1) and (2). 1.03≤La/Lb≤1.20 (1) 1.05≤Ld/Lc≤1.25 (2) (When the line segment joining the two points which are farthest from each other on the circumference of the approximately ovoid cross-section of the single fiber is defined as a major axis and the line segment which passes through the midpoint of the major axis and joins two points located on the circumference and which is perpendicular to the major axis is defined as a minor axis, then the length of the major axis and the length of the minor axis are expressed by La and Lb, respectively. When the major axis is divided into four equal parts, the lengths of the two line segments which respectively pass through the points, other than the midpoint, that lie on the major axis and which each join two points located on the circumference and are perpendicular to the major axis are expressed by Lc and Ld in order of increasing size.)
