Abstract:
The present invention provides a card reader capable of downsizing a card lock mechanism and reliably preventing fishing. This card reader (1) is provided with a card lock mechanism (7) for preventing a card (2) from being extracted from a card insertion slot (3) when abnormality in the conveyance of the card in a card conveyance path (W) is detected. The card lock mechanism is provided with a motor (14), a lock member (15) in which are formed stopping pawls (35a) for coming in contact with a card and preventing the card from being extracted, and a motive power transmission mechanism (16) for transmitting the motive power of the motor to the lock member. The lock member moves, by the motive power transmitted from the motor, between a position at which the stopping pawls come in contact with the card and a position at which the stopping pawls retract from the card conveyance path. The motive power transmission mechanism is provided with a worm gear (20) configured from a screw gear (18) and a helical gear (19) that engages with the screw gear.
