Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing: a cell culturing method whereby it becomes possible to prevent oxygen deficiency in cells when the cells are cultured at a high density; and a method for producing a useful substance utilizing the cell culturing method. According to the present invention, a cell culturing method is provided, in which the relationship among an agitation power per unit volume P/V, a dissolved oxygen concentration CL0 and a viable cell density VCD satisfies the requirement represented by formula 1 in cell culturing at a viable cell density of 60×106 cell/mL or more. Formula 1: 0.0059×exp[0.0243×(P/V)]×CL0/VCD ≧ 1.10×10-17 In the formula, CL0 represents a dissolved oxygen concentration [mol/mL]; VCD represents a viable cell density [cell/mL]: and P/V represents an agitation power per unit volume [W/m3] which is defined by a specified formula.
