Abstract:
A ceramic honeycomb structure characterized by having a plurality of flow paths partitioned by a porous partition and said partition having (a) a porosity of 55%-65% and (b) a pore distribution, measured by mercury porosimetry, whereby: (i) the pore diameter of 2% cumulative pore volume of the total pore volume is 100-180 µm, the pore diameter (d5) of 5% is 55-150 µm, the pore diameter (d10) of 10% is at least 20 µm and less than 50 µm, the pore diameter (d50) of 50% is 12-23 µm, the pore diameter of 85% is at least 6 µm and less than 10 µm, the pore diameter (d90) of 90% is 4-8 µm, the pore diameter (d98) of 98% is no more than 3.5 µm, (d10 - d90)/d50 is 1.3-2, (d50 - d90)/d50 is 0.45-0.7, and (d10 - d50)/d50 is 0.75-1.4; (ii) the difference between the logarithm of the pore diameter for 20% cumulative pore volume of the total pore volume and the logarithm of the pore diameter for 80% being no more than 0.39; and (iii) the volume of pores exceeding 100 µm being no more than 0.05 cm3/g.
