Abstract:
A chair, wherein a seat (5) is supported so that the seat (5) can be pivoted between a use position in which the seat (5) is held horizontally or tilted rearward and downward relative to a lower structure (4) of the chair and a standby position in which the seat (5) is tilted rearward and upward, a backrest (9) is provided to the rear of the seat so as to be pivotable between an upstanding position and a rearward tilted position, and the chair is provided with a pressing means (17) for pressing the seat toward the standby position and also pressing the backrest toward the upstanding position. The chair is also provided with a linkage means (38) for linking the seat and the backrest together so that the backrest is maintained in a substantially vertical position in a period when the seat is pivoted from the standby position to the use position. With the chair, when the seat becomes pivoted upward, the backrest is not separated from the seat and is maintained at the upright position, so that the chair stably holds the back of a person sitting on and leaving the chair.
