Abstract:
Provided in the present invention is a circuit breaker adapted to high voltage direct currents, capable of stably shutting-off from small currents of 1 kA or lower to such ground-fault currents as those exceeding 1 kA. The circuit breaker comprises: first switch contacts (1a, 1b) for opening and closing a direct current electric path (200); second switch contacts (2a, 2b), each connected in series to the respective first switch contacts (1a, 1b), for opening and closing the direct current electric path (200); and semiconductor switches (4a, 4b), each connected parallel to the respective second switch contacts (2a, 2b) at both extremities thereof, for opening and closing the direct current electric path (200). The semiconductor switches (4a, 4b) are closed after the first switch contacts (1a, 1b) and the second switch contacts (2a, 2b) have been closed during charging, and are opened after the first switch contacts (1a, 1b) and the second switch contacts (2a, 2b) have been opened at shut-off time.
