Title:
COATED GLASS GRANULATE AS CONCRETE AGGREGATE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2011/038722
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
When not alkali-resistant glass granulates shall be rendered suitable by means of a coloured coating as an aggregate for cement-/hydraulic-bound and surface-ground cut stone or terrazzo floors, it is required from said coating that it undetachably adheres to the surface of the glass grains, forms an efficient barrier against alkaline influences and ensures a strong adhesive composite with a cement-/hydraulic-bound surrounding matrix while having a layer thickness that is as small as possible. The present invention meets these requirements in that the coating of the glass grain (A) consists of a pigmented, originally water-based, silanized reaction resin (B) which has a plating of very thin, overlying mica flakes (C) and is enclosed on the outer surface (D) by an optionally pigmented mixture of cement powder and rock flour. Said enclosure causes a smooth transition from the organic-polymer to an inorganic-hydraulic binding phase.
