Abstract:
Provided are: a coated nickel hydroxide powder which is suitable for use as a positive electrode active material of an alkaline secondary battery, and with which uniformity and adhesive properties of a cobalt compound coating for particle surfaces are improved; and an evaluation method for the adhesive properties of said coating. The transmittance ratio (A-Bmax)/(B0-Bmax) of this coated nickel hydroxide powder for a positive electrode active material of an alkaline secondary battery, said powder being obtained by coating surfaces of nickel hydroxide particles with a cobalt compound, is set so as to be at least 30%. Transmittance A (that of the coated nickel hydroxide powder), transmittance B0 (that of a nickel hydroxide powder), and transmittance Bmax (that of the nickel hydroxide powder and the cobalt compound corresponding to the cobalt content in the coating) are obtained by inserting and sealing each powder in a cylindrical transparent cell, shaking for a fixed time period, and subsequently extracting the contents and measuring the transmittance of the transparent cell.
