A coating apparatus (10) comprising: a gravure roll (11) provided with an uneven structure for holding an aqueous liquid on a surface thereof; a backup roll (12) for sandwiching a base material (20) between the backup roll (12) and the gravure roll (11); and a pass roll (13) for conveying the base material (20) while keeping a part of the base material (20) on the downstream side of a nip part (40) in the base material (20) conveying direction in contact with the surface of the gravure roll (11), the nip part (40) being the part of the base material (20) sandwiched between the gravure roll (11) and the backup roll (12). The area of the surface of the gravure roll (11) in contact with said part of the base material (20) is a circular arc area having a central angle of 10°-45° inclusive in the surface of the gravure roll (11).
