Abstract:
When transferring data between a server device and a client device or between
communication terminals, the data transfer rate is set in accordance with a usable
bandwidth and the data application so as to cause no unnecessary portion in a network.
A control unit detects a packet loss generated upon a data transfer. When a packet
loss is detected, the control unit selects a compression mode of a low data transfer
rate. On the other hand, even when no packet loss is caused, the time required
for data transfer (reciprocation delay time) is measured. When the reciprocation
delay time is sufficiently small, a compression mode of a high data transfer rate
is selected. The compression mode can be selected by switching to other codec
or modifying the compression rate set in the codec, for example.
