This communication device is provided with: a transmitting circuit for repeatedly outputting a first prescribed signal to a transmission path with a prescribed period; a receiving circuit for receiving a second prescribed signal that is repeatedly output from another communication device via the transmission path with the prescribed period; a waveform equivalence processing unit for performing waveform equivalence processing with respect to the signal received by the receiving circuit; a holding unit for holding parameters relating to the waveform equivalence processing; a storage unit for storing information relating to the propagation speed of signals on the transmission path, the duration of the prescribed period, and the transmission rate; and an abnormality position determining unit for calculating the distance to the position of an abnormality on the transmission path, using information relating to a parameter, among the parameters, that results from the abnormality on the transmission path, and using the information stored in the storage unit.
