The present disclosure relates to a composite material, a preparation method therefor, an electrode containing same, and a use thereof. The composite material comprises a nano-domain compound. The nano-domain compound comprises nickel, NixNy, and NimOn. The nano-domain compound comprises a plurality of nano-domains distributed in a staggered manner. The size of each nano-domain is 100 nm or below; each nano-domain is adjacent to two or more nano-domains different in composition; and there are at least two adjacent nano-domains having one or more common element. The composite material of the present disclosure has a large number of heterogeneous interfaces on the surface thereof, presents high catalytic and electrochemical activities, and can be used as an active material of electrodes such as an electrode for hydrogen production by water electrolysis, an electrode for oxygen production by water electrolysis , a membrane electrode of an alkaline fuel cell, a cathode of a chlorine-alkali electrolytic cell, an anode of a chlorine-alkali electrolytic cell, a carbon dioxide reduction electrode, an organic matter degradation electrode, a negative electrode of a lithium ion battery, a negative electrode of a sodium ion battery, a negative electrode of a magnesium ion battery, a negative electrode of a zinc-air battery, and an electrode of a supercapacitor.
