Abstract:
The present invention relates to a composition, comprising fluoride varnish and an antibacterial material, which can prevent dental caries and prevent or treat periodontal disease, as a result of the addition, to fluoride varnish, of an antibacterial material against Porphyromonas gingivalis. Specifically, chrysophanol, emodin, anthrarufin, bavachalcone, or isobavachromene, and a fluoride varnish composition comprising same according to the present invention exhibit antibacterial activity against Porphyromonas gingivalis and thus can be effectively useful for preventing and treating periodontal disease. Particularly, because fluoride varnish itself has a suppressive effect on Streptococcus mutans; S.mutans, which is a dental caries causing bacteria, and among the compounds, bavachalcone or isobavachromene has significant antibacterial activity against S.mutans, a fluoride varnish composition comprising same can be used to prevent or treat both dental caries and periodontal disease.
