Abstract:
This disclosure addresses the problem of providing, as one example, a compression device wherein a removal unit for removing water vapor and/or liquid water in a hydrogen-containing cathode gas compressed by a compressor can have a simpler structure than conventional ones. A compression device according to one aspect of the present invention is provided with: a compressor which is provided with an electrolyte membrane, an anode catalyst layer provided on one main surface of the electrolyte membrane, a cathode catalyst layer provided on the other main surface of the electrolyte membrane, an anode gas diffusion layer provided on the anode catalyst layer, a cathode gas diffusion layer provided on the cathode catalyst layer, and a voltage application unit for applying a voltage between the anode catalyst layer and the cathode catalyst layer, and in which the voltage application unit applies the voltage to cause protons taken from an anode fluid supplied onto the anode catalyst layer to move onto the cathode catalyst layer through the electrolyte membrane, thereby generating compressed hydrogen; and a removal unit which comprises a water permeable membrane, a first flow path provided on one main surface of the water permeable membrane to allow the cathode gas discharged from the compressor to flow therethrough, and a second flow path provided on the other main surface of the water permeable membrane to allow a gas having a lower pressure than the cathode gas to flow therethrough, and which removes water vapor and/or liquid water contained in the cathode gas flowing along the first flow path. The compressor and the removal unit are integrally formed.
