The purpose of the present invention is to improve stability when a great force is applied to a towing vehicle or a towed vehicle in a direction of towing. This coupling device couples a towing vehicle and a towed vehicle that is towed by the towing vehicle. The coupling device includes a first coupling module that includes a first coupling portion and a first fixing portion that extends from the first coupling portion and that is fixed to the towing vehicle, and a second coupling module that includes a second coupling portion that couples to the first coupling portion and a second fixing portion that extends from the second coupling portion and that is fixed to the towed vehicle. The first coupling portion and the second coupling portion are separable when an uncoupling force that exceeds a normal towing force of the towed vehicle by the towing vehicle is applied in a direction of towing.
