Abstract:
A cutting insert comprises a main body and a cutting portion that is fixed to the main body and is made of a cubic boron nitride polycrystal including 98.5% by volume or more of cubic boron nitride. A rake face and a flank face are formed on the cutting portion. A ridge line at a position where the rake face and the flank face intersect with each other constitutes a cutting edge, and the rake face includes a land surface extending along the cutting edge, and a chip breaker which is disposed across the land surface from the cutting edge and includes a recess continuous with the land surface.
