Abstract:
A cutting insert (1) of an embodiment has: first sub cutting edges (15) which are disposed at positions corresponding to first corner sections of a polygonal upper surface (3); second sub cutting edges (17) which are disposed at positions corresponding to second corner sections; and main cutting edges (13) which are disposed on side sections. In a side view, each of the main cutting edges (13) has a first cutting edge (19) which is positioned adjacent to the first sub cutting edge (15), a second cutting edge (21) which is positioned adjacent to the second sub cutting edge (17), and a third cutting edge (23) which is positioned between the first cutting edge (19) and the second cutting edge (21). Each main cutting edge (13) inclines so that the height decreases from the portion of the main cutting edge (13) adjacent to the first sub cutting edge (15) to the portion adjacent to the second sub cutting edge (17). The inclination angle (θ3) of the third cutting edge (23) is greater than the inclination angles (θ1, θ2) of the first cutting edge (19) and second cutting edge (21).
