Abstract:
Provided is a cutting tool comprising a substrate that has a relief surface, and a coating film that coats the relief surface, wherein: the coating film includes an α-Al2O3 layer provided on the substrate; the α-Al2O3 layer includes crystal grains of α-Al2O3; the area ratio of crystal grains that are (001) oriented in the relief surface of the α-Al2O3 layer is 50-90%; in measurement of residual stress according to a 2θ-sin2ψ method in which X-rays are used, the in-film residual stress AA derived on the basis of the crystal plane interval of the (001) surface of the α-Al2O3 layer in the relief surface is at least -1000 MPa and less than 0 MPa, and the in-film residual stress BA derived on the basis of the crystal plane interval of the (110) surface of the α-Al2O3 layer in the relief surface is at least -1000 MPa and less than 0 MPa; and the relational expression |AA| ≤ |BA| is satisfied.
