Abstract:
A cutting tool provided with a base material having a cutting face, and a coating film for coating the cutting face, wherein the coating film includes an α-Al2O3 layer provided on the base material, the α-Al2O3 layer includes α-Al2O3 crystal grains, the area ratio of crystal grains having a (001) orientation in the cutting face in the α-Al2O3 layer is 50% to 90%, the residual stress AA in the film determined on the basis of the crystal face interval of (001) faces of the α-Al2O3 layer in the cutting face, obtained by measuring the residual stress by the 2θ-sin2ψ method using X-rays, is more than 0 MPa and no greater than 2000 MPa, and the residual stress BA in the film determined on the basis of the crystal face interval of (110) faces of the α-Al2O3 layer in the cutting face is -1000 MPa to less than 0 MPa.
