Description:
Device for machining surfaces

TECHNICAL FIELD:

The invention relates to a device for preparing surfaces 10 for example when removing paint layers or joint sealants comprising a tool having at least one edge.

PRIOR ART:

Paints and sealant scrapes are still used frequently when 15 removing paint layers or joint sealants from facades.

Other methods such as grinding or removing by means of hot air or chemicals have certain disadvantages which do not exist when scraping by means of paint scrapers, for

20 instance dust, noise or waste of chemicals. Mechanical scraping devices are also known earlier for example through US 3 195 232. These devices are intended to be pushed forward and by means of an edge remove the material in question.

25

The manual scraping is however ergonomically trying. The scraper is put by substantial force against the surface or the joint whereupon the scraper is pulled along the surface or the joint to expose the underlying surface. The

30 efficiency is relatively low and ineffective. The work gives such an oblique load on arms and shoulders that one can not exclude the risk for wearing damages.

► i THE TECHNICAL PROBLEM: 35 The object of the present invention is to bring about a simple and effective device by means of which the above described problems can be avoided.

THE SOLUTION:

The object is solved according to the invention by means of a device to move the tool alternatively forwards and backwards in relation to a surface with a certain predetermined frequency and stroke. The device according to the invention makes thus a mechanizing of the scraping possible which is an appreciable increase of the preparing capacity at the same time as the risk for wearing damages can be avoided.

Advantageous embodiments of the invention appear from the following subclaims.

DESCRIPTION OF THE FIGURES: Embodiments of the invention will now be described more in detail in connection with the attached drawing on which

Fig. 1 is a side view of an embodiment example of a device according to the invention, Fig. 2 is an end view of the device according to

Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a view seen from below of the same.

PREFERRED EMBODIMENT EXAMPLES: In Fig. 1 a device according to the invention is shown in its working position at a wooden surface 10 which surface is prepared for removal of a paint layer 11.

The device includes a body 12 which in one of its ends is provided with a connection 13 for example a not shown conduit for pressure air. The same end comprises a rotatably journalled supporting roll 14 which is used to support the body against the surface 10. For this purpose the body 12 is provided with a vibration damping handle 15 which is mounted directly above the support roll 14.

The other end of the body 12 is provided with a reciprocatingly movable edge tool 16 which is journalled on a shaft 17. This shaft is mounted in a thrust bearing and connected to a not shown driving means for the reciprocating movement. Another vibration damping handle 18 is mounted so that the pressure point is directly above the edge tool which via this second handle can be given a suitable working pressure. Removing of the paint layer 11 occurs then when the tool is moved to the right in the figure.

The body 12 comprises piston and valve organs, which are known per see and not shown in the drawings, by for example pneumatic power to bring the shaft 17 to move forward and backwards at a predetermined frequency and stroke.

The frequency and the stroke interval is suitably 25-200 Hz and 0,05-6 mm, respectively.

The edge tool 16 can be shaped in many different ways with regard to angle and profile to be adapted to different surfaces. It can for example include a number of lamellas which are individually adjustable for adjustment to a profiled surface. The edge should however be so shaped that the device can be drawn backwardly. This is especially advantageous when a wooden surface is to be cleaned so that one avoids that the edge penetrates down into the surface.

The driving of the piston 17 may occur in other ways than the above described for instance electrically or hydraulically.

The piston 17 may for example be connected to an electrically or magnetically actuated dimension changing material (DMF) . One electrical conduit connected to the body 12 connects then this with a supply unit containing

equipment for generating of suitable effect and wave frequency. As example of such electrically or magnetically actuated dimension changing materials one can mention magnetostrictive materials, for example TERFENOL-D or the like, which is combinations of Tb, Dy and Fe. The movement created by said material can in a suitable way be geared out to a suitable stroke and frequency.

The reciprocating movement of the tool can also be complemented with a superimposed side movement so that the tool moves in two axis in relation to a surface.

The invention is not limited to the above described embodiment example and several variations are thinkable within the scope of the following patent claims. The device according to the invention can for example be a tool on a robot arm having at least three degrees of freedom of motion.
