Abstract:
A device and method for control of an engine having a fuel injection valve (40) directly injecting fuel into a combustion chamber (16), wherein a fuel feed device includes a feed pump (46) and a booster pump (47), the booster pump (47) further pressurizes the fuel fed from the feed pump (46) at a specified pressure so as to feed it to the fuel injection valve (40), the driving of the booster pump (47) is stopped so that the fuel injection valve (40) can inject fuel at the pressure of fuel fed from the feed pump (46) when a trouble occurs on the booster pump (47), and the amount of air for driving the fuel injection valve (40) or sucked into the combustion chamber (16) is limited so that only air/fuel mixture not inducing misfire is formed in the combustion chamber (16) when the driving of the booster pump (47) is stopped, whereby such an air/fuel mixture that may induce misfire is not formed in the combustion chamber (16), ignition to the air/fuel mixture in the fuel chamber (16) is assured, and the unburned air/fuel mixture is not exhausted from the combustion chamber (16).
