Abstract:
Provided is a device which, on the basis of a captured image obtained by capturing an image of an area ahead of a vehicle, predicts the turning of the vehicle. By capturing an image of an area ahead of a vehicle by a sensor mounted in the vehicle, a captured image is repeatedly acquired. Positional coordinate information relating to a light source in the acquired captured image and information indicating whether the light source is the light source of a preceding vehicle or the light source of an oncoming vehicle are repeatedly outputted as surrounding object information. It is determined, on the basis of the surrounding object information, whether or not the light source is the light source of an oncoming vehicle newly appearing in the captured image and is located in a predetermined area near the left end of the captured image or in a predetermined area near the right end thereof. If the result of the determination is positive, it is predicted that there is a curve in the direction of travel of the vehicle.
