Abstract:

The disclosed device for monitoring the vicinity of a vehicle is provided with: a means for detecting objects in the vicinity of the vehicle on the basis of an image acquired by means of an imaging device that images the vicinity of the vehicle; a display means for displaying on display screens display images generated on the basis of the image that was imaged; and an warning means that, when an object has been detected, warns the driver of the presence of said object via said display means. Said display means is disposed at a plurality of positions that the driver can view, and with the line of sight of said driver facing forward as a baseline, the warning means reduces the amount of information displayed on each display screen the greater the amount of motion of the line of sight that is necessary for said driver to view said display screen of the display means. Thus, the readability at a glance is increased the further from the driver the display device is positioned, and it is possible to optimize the driver's attention to the display screens and the driver's attention in the forward direction.
