Description:
DEVICE FOR A STANCHION

The present invention relates to a device for a stanchion for the side of a load platform, or any similar cargo delimiting portion, and comprises an

operable blocking mechanism with locking bolts, which can be actuated manually by means of a pivotably mounted lever arm, and where said locking bolts are mounted to be displaceably received in the stanchion along its length extension, in order to block the stanchion in the desired upright position, at the lower end portion of the lever arm and the stanchion, whereby said locking bolts, which are mounted to be movable along the length extension of the stanchion, are operably connected to said lever arm, whereby said locking bolts can be received in fitting apertures at the lower end portion of said stanchion in order to achieve blocking engagement with locking co- operative portion.

Known solutions to releasably lock stanchions to lorry platforms and similar places comprise stop devices, whereby the force acting on the stanchion and its parts is transmitted via a lever, and not until after that to the intended attachment and the side of the lorry platform in question. An example thereof is clearly illustrated in WO 2010/021584 Al, see the stop device (37) therein .

The main object of the present invention is, therefore, in the first place to solve the problem mentioned above by simple, safe and effectively working means, where the force is transmitted directly to the platform and not to any intermediate parts of the mechanism.

Said object is reached by means of a device according to the present invention, which is mainly characterized in that said locking bolts are adapted to be received in fitting apertures in the form of recesses in the bottom part of a pivot arm, which can be received in the stanchion, and in the platform attachment and in the bottom portion of the stanchion, respectively.

The present invention is described in the following and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which

Fig. 1 is a plan view of a stanchion intended for a lorry platform,

Fig. 2 illustrates said stanchion seen from the side,

Figs. 3 and 4 are longitudinal sections of the stanchion seen along the sectional line III-III in Fig. 1 and IV-IV in Fig. 2, respectively,

Figs. 5 and 6 illustrate a plan view and a lateral view, respectively, of the stanchion with its operating mechanism in a first folded-out state,

Figs. 7 and 8 illustrate a plan view and a lateral view, respectively, of the stanchion with its operating mechanism in a second folded-out state,

Figs. 9 and 10 are longitudinal sections of the stanchion seen along the sectional line IX-IX in Fig. 7 and X-X in Fig. 8, respectively,

Fig. 11 and 12 illustrate a plan view and a lateral view, respectively, of the stanchion and platform attachment, whereby the stanchion is in its swung-out position, and Fig. 13 illustrates a longitudinal section of the lower portion of the stanchion and the platform attachment seen along the sectional line XIII-XIII in Fig. 11.

The invention is described below as far as the new and characteristic features of the present device 1 are concerned, and, therefore, previously known solutions and their function are not described in detail.

Parts similar to the parts of previous solutions are clear from the known technique and publications related thereto.

A device 1 for a stanchion 2, a large number of which are adapted to be arranged along a side of a platform or any other similar cargo delimiting portion in order to constitute a support for cargo and connecting supported platform sideboards and/or other platform protections in the form of, for example, tarpaulins and other covers to protect cargo on the platform of the vehicle against theft as well as weather, is clearly illustrated in Figs. 9 and 10. Said device 1 comprises an operable blocking mechanism 3, which is adapted to block the stanchion 2 in question in the desired upright

position. Thereby, a lever 4 comprises said blocking mechanism 3 in the region of said lower end portion 5 of said stanchion.

According to the invention a number of locking bolts 7, which are mounted to move along the length extension 6 of the stanchion, are operably

connected to said lever 4. Thereby, said locking bolts 7 can be received in fitting apertures 8-11 at the lower end portion 5 of said stanchion 2 to achieve blocking engagement with locking co-operative portion. The force acting on the blocking mechanism is adapted to be transmitted directly to said platform side via the platform attachment 12 of the stanchion in question.

According to the invention said locking bolts 7 are adapted to be received in fitting apertures 8-11 in the form of recesses in the bottom part 14 of a pivot arm 17, which can be received in the stanchion 2, and in the platform attachment 12 and in the bottom portion 15 of the stanchion 2, respectively.

By BE 1005536 A6 a locking device for a stanchion of the type described above is previously known, but where the locking bolt (14) in question is received only in a recess (10) in the platform frame (3) of the vehicle, and then there is no difference between this and other known technique as far as this part of the invention is concerned. In contrast to this known device the locking bolts according to the present invention are received in no less than three different apertures when in locking co-operation, namely located in the bottom part of a pivot arm, in a platform attachment and in the bottom portion of the stanchion. Thus, it is a substantial difference, and which solves the problem to obtain safe and steady locking of the stanchions to the sides of the load platform of goods vehicles .

Preferably, locking bolts 7 at least arranged in pairs are provided at each stanchion 2, and in the example said doubling is formed in that the locking bolts 7 arranged in pairs are located at a mutual distance A from one another, as seen laterally 13. Thereby, said locking bolts 7 are adapted to be received in fitting apertures 8-11 in the form of recesses in the bottom part 14 of the stanchion 2 in question and in platform attachment 12 supported by and attached to the platform, and in the bottom portion 19 of the stanchion. Said locking bolts 7 can be actuated manually by means of a said pivotably mounted lever arm 4 and are mounted to be displaceably received in the stanchion 2 along its length extension 6. At the lower end 5 of the stanchion 2 a pivot arm 17 is provided, which is pivotably mounted round a pivot joint 16 and which can be manually operated, and by means of which the stanchion 2 is pivoted when it is removed from and turned to the position, in which it is received in the platform attachment 12, respectively, and which in its turn pivotably supports said lever arm 4. Said locking bolts 7 are locked in recesses 8, 9 in the bottom portion 14 of the pivot arm 17.

More exactly, said locking bolts 7 are formed of punched or bent metal sheets or rods, whereby the cross-sectional shape of the locking bolts 7 is square, preferably rectangular. The longer cross-sectional dimension of the locking bolts 7 extends in the transverse direction of the platform of the vehicle, and the main portion 7A of said locking bolts 7 extends along the entire width of the entire enclosing housing, seen in the transverse direction of the platform of the vehicle.

The nature of the invention has been clearly defined above, and its function should also have been clear from of the above description and the

accompanying drawings.

Fig. 13 clearly illustrates the pivoting function of the stanchion 2 and its pivot arm 17, and through engaging co-operation between the lower end portion 17A of the pivot arm 17 and the inner portion 12A of the platform attachment 12 it is possible to optionally lift up and pivot the stanchion 2 in question in the desired direction 18, 19, away from 18 and towards 19 said platform attachment 12, respectively, after and before, respectively, locking by means of the lever arm 4 in order to operate the mechanism 3 and its locking bolts 7 to open, close and lock, respectively.

The platform attachment 12 exhibits a flange 21, which is formed towards the outside 20 of the vehicle and in co-operation with which the lower portion 17A of the pivot arm 17 through engagement causes said movements of pivot arm 17 and stanchion 2. Further, the lever arm 4 can be releasably received in a fitting recess 50 in the pivot arm 17, which in its turn can be releasably received in a fitting recess 100 in the stanchion 2. Thereby, the stanchion 2 is adapted to be held upright by the pivot arm 17 in question, at least when the pivot arm 17 is inserted in said recess 100 in the stanchion 2.

Of course, the invention is not limited to the embodiments described above and illustrated in the accompanying drawings. Modifications are possible, especially as far as the nature of the different parts is concerned, or by using equivalent technique, without departing from the scope of the invention as it is defined in the patent claims .
