Abstract:
Novel dibenzoylmethane derivatives of general formula (1) which have a high ultraviolet-absorbing power and high light stability and exhibit an ability to inhibit discoloration even in the presence of a metal ion; a process for the preparation of the derivatives; and ultraviolet absorbers and cosmetics characterized by containing the same wherein R?1¿ to R?6¿ are each a member selected from among hydrogen, alkyl and alkoxy, with the provisos that when R?1¿ is alkyl, R?4¿ is alkoxy, while when R?1¿ is alkoxy, R?4¿ is alkyl, and that either of R?1¿ and R?4¿ and either of R?2¿ and R?5¿ are selected from the above members except hydrogen.
