Abstract:
An inner circumferential wall surface of a cavity 3 of a piston 1 has a lower region 3a that goes halfway to an opening from an inner floor surface of the cavity 3 and is flush in the circumferential direction. The inner circumferential wall surface also has an upper region that is on the opening side of halfway to the opening from the inner floor surface of the cavity 3, and recesses 5 that are recessed outward in the radial direction and are struck by fuel that is sprayed from respective upper spray holes 2a are provided at a plurality of locations around the upper region. Lower spray holes 2b are provided such that fuel that is sprayed therefrom strikes near partitions 7 that are present between adjacent recesses 5 at the inner floor surface.
