Abstract:

Provided are: a novel (diisopropyl fumarate)-(cinnamic acid derivative) copolymer which is expected to be formed into a phase difference film having excellent optical properties, for example, having a high refractive index in the direction of the thickness of the film and a high out-of-plane phase difference and capable of having a high out-of-plane phase difference even when the film is thin; and a phase difference film which is produced using the copolymer. The (diisopropyl fumarate)-(cinnamic acid derivative) copolymer contains a diisopropyl fumarate residue unit and also contains a cinnamic acid residue unit or a cinnamic acid ester residue unit having a C1-6 alkyl group.
