A dispersion compensation method and apparatus, used for compensating dispersion in an optical fibre communication system. The method comprises: a receiving end of an optical fibre communication system determining a one-to-one correlation between a plurality of optimal phase compensation values and a plurality of sub-carrier signals in a first multi-carrier signal to be transmitted by a transmission end of the optical fibre communication system; the receiving end generating indication information, the indication information comprising the one-to-one correlation between the plurality of optimal phase compensation values and the plurality of sub-carrier signals in the first multi-carrier signal; the receiving end sending the generated indication information to the transmission end; the transmission end receiving the indication information sent by the receiving end, and according to the one-to-one correlation, using the plurality of optimal phase compensation values to perform phase compensation on the plurality of sub-carrier signals in the first multi-carrier signal so as to obtain a second multi-carrier signal; the transmission end performing optical modulation on the second multi-carrier signal so as to obtain a first optical signal; and the transmission end sending the first optical signal to the receiving end.
