Abstract:
A diffractive optical waveguide (10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60), a display device comprising said waveguide, and a design method therefor. The diffractive optical waveguide (10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60) comprises a waveguide substrate (10a, 20a, 30a, 40a, 50a, 60a) and an in-coupling grating (11, 21, 31, 41, 51, 61), an out-coupling grating (12, 22, 32, 42, 52, 62), and an out-coupling end light return grating (13, 23, 33, 43, 53, 63) formed on the waveguide substrate (10a, 20a, 30a, 40a, 50a, 60a), wherein at least a portion of the out-coupling end light return grating (13, 23, 33, 43, 53, 63) is constructed as comprising a plurality of out-coupling light return sub-gratings (13a, 13b, 13c, 23a, 23b, 23c, 33a, 33b, 33c, 43a, 43b, 43c, 53a, 53b, 53c, 63a), and at least one out-coupling light return sub-grating (13a, 13b, 13c, 23a, 23b, 23c, 33a, 33b, 33c, 43a, 43b, 43c, 53a, 53b, 53c, 63a) has a same grating vector as and a different optical structure from another out-coupling light return sub-grating (13a, 13b, 13c, 23a, 23b, 23c, 33a, 33b, 33c, 43a, 43b, 43c, 53a, 53b, 53c, 63a). The sub-gratings (13a, 13b, 13c, 23a, 23b, 23c, 33a, 33b, 33c, 43a, 43b, 43c, 53a, 53b, 53c, 63a) can have different diffraction efficiencies, the diffraction/light return efficiency of the out-coupling end light return grating at different positions can be adjusted, and the uniformity of an emergent light field of the diffractive optical waveguide can be improved.
