Title:
DISPOSABLE COLLAPSIBLE CONTAINER
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2001/026979
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A collapsible container (10) is provided for containing adhesives and sealants. The container (10) is formed of material which is permeable to atmospheric oxygen so as to provide for the containment of anaerobic adhesives. The container includes a generally cylindrical container body defining an interior for retaining the adhesive. The container body includes a first container section (20) defining a first portion of the interior and a second container section (18) defining a second portion of the interior. The first and second container sections (20, 18) are joined together about a seam (26). The second container section (18) includes a cylindrical side wall which is gradually tapered inwardly from said seam (26) so as to permit the second container section (18) to be easily collapsibly deformed into the first container section (20). This reduces the area occupied by the container during transport and disposal.

Claims:
WHAT IS CLAIMED IS:
1. A collapsible container comprising: a generally cylindrical container body defining a container interior for retaining contents; said container body including a first container section defining a first portion of said container interior and a second container section defining a second portion of said container interior, said first and second container sections being joined about a seam, said second container portion being defined by a generally cylindrical side wall inwardly tapering away from said seam to permit deformable collapsing of said second container section into said first portion of said container interior defined by said first container section.
2. A collapsible container of claim 1 wherein said first container section includes a dispensing opening in communication with said container interior.
3. A collapsible container of claim 2 wherein said second container section includes a generally planar bottom wall.
4. A collapsible container of claim 2 wherein said first container section includes a generally planar top wall and wherein said dispensing opening extends through said top wall.
5. A collapsible container of claim 4 further including a dispensing port extending from said top wall about said dispensing opening.
6. A collapsible container of claim 5 wherein said dispensing port is centrally located on said top wall.
7. An article of manufacture comprising : a generally cylindrical container body defining a container interior for retaining contents; a flowable polymerizable composition contained within said container body; said container body including a first container section defining a first portion of said container interior and a second container section defining a second portion of said container interior, said first and second container sections being joined about a seam, said second container portion being defined by a generally cylindrical side wall inwardly tapering away from said seam to permit deformable collapsing of said second container section into said first portion of said container interior defined by said first container section; and said first section including a dispensing opening in communication with said container interior.
8. An article of manufacture of claim 7 wherein said container body is oxygen permeable.
9. An article of manufacture of claim 8 wherein said polymerizable composition is an anaerobic composition.
10. An article of manufacture of claim 7 wherein said second section includes a generally planar bottom wall.
11. An article of manufacture of claim 8 wherein said container body comprises a material selected from the group consisting of low density polyethylene and high density polyethylene.
12. An article of manufacture of claim 7 wherein said container body comprises a material which resists oxygen and moisture permeation.
13. An article of manufacture of claim 12 wherein said material is selected from the group consisting of polyethylene terephthalate, ethylenevinyl alcohol polymers and nylon.
14. An article of manufacture of claim 7 wherein said flowable polymerizable composition is selected from the group consisting of epoxies, acrylics, silicones, elastomers and cyanoacrylates.
