Abstract:
A driving assistance device (1) has an assistance control unit (50) that determines whether to turn an engine (5) on or off, and a drive control unit (54c) that controls the driving of the engine (5) on the basis of the on/off determination made by the assistance control unit (50). The assistance control unit (50) determines whether a vehicle is to stop at a target stopping position, and if it is determined that the vehicle is to stop at the target stopping position, and the timing is such that the vehicle is able to reach the target stopping position without generating a driving force, the assistance control unit (50) establishes settings so that the engine (5) can easily be switched from on to off.
