Abstract:
An electrochromic device of the present disclosure has an electrochromic element 100 comprising a first electrode 101, a second electrode 102, and an electrochromic layer 103 arranged between the first electrode and the second electrode. The electrochromic layer comprises an anodic electrochromic compound and an oxidizable substance, the oxidizable substance exhibits substantially no change in color due to oxidation, and the oxidized form of the oxidizable substance is not reduced. The oxidation reaction of the oxidizable substance is less likely to occur than the oxidation reaction of the anodic electrochromic compound, and the control unit controls the oxidation of the oxidizable substance on the basis of the electric charge balance of the electrochromic element.
