Abstract:
A bending moment driver, suitable for the boundary operation of planar diaphragm loudspeakers, comprises an oscillatory coil wound along the boundary edge surface of the resonator plate and a permanent magnet system arranged at a small separation from the boundary edge surface of the resonator plate. In an alternative embodiment the driver has a pole core with a fixed coil wound around the above and a permanent magnet let into the plate and fixed to the resonator plate for moment transmission, whereby the pole core is arranged around the edge of the resonator plate in a jaw-like manner. An opposing force pair parallel to the normal of the plate is thus generated, exerting a bending moment on the resonator plate by means of a lever arm corresponding to the length of the permanent magnet.
