Abstract:
This electromagnetic wave radiation element emits an electromagnetic wave having a target frequency within the range of 0.1 THz to 30 THz to the outside of a crystal. Said element is provided with a main body (7) formed from a non-linear optical crystal, and a sub wavelength grating structure (5) formed on the surface of the main body (7). The sub wavelength grating structure (5) comprises columnar bodies (6) regularly arranged on the surface (7a) of the main body (7). Each columnar body (6) is provided with a constant width part (6d) having a constant width, and a base part (6g) disposed extending from the surface toward the constant width part (6d). A surface (6b) of the base part (6g) has an arc shape, the center of curvature of which is outside of the base part (6g) when viewed from a transverse section formed by cutting the columnar body along an arrangement direction (X, Y).
